ICRC Photojournalism Award - Call For Entries

Our colleagues at ICRC Paris, in collaboration with Visa Pour L'Image, are calling on photojournalists to submit their work for the ICRC's third Visa d'Or Humanitaire.

Previous winners include Catalina Martin-Chico, Yemen, 2011, and Mani, Syria, 2012. 

The ICRC award and its €8000 prize will go to a professional photographer whose work has shed light on the issue of the protection of the medical mission in armed conflicts or other situations of violence.

Former GTMO Detainee Explains Why ICRC Visits Mattered

 

 In an article published today in the Washington Post, David Remes, a lawyer for several persons held at Guantanamo, states that only two detainees currently on hunger strike at the facility accepted to meet with our visiting team last week.

While I will not comment on Mr. Remes' statement, it is worth reiterating our stance: in Guantanamo and elsewhere, we never impose ourselves and always respect the wishes of the people we seek to protect and assist. If a detainee does not want to accept our services, we of course fully respect his or her choice.
