The Non-Military Components of the United States' Strategy in Afghanistan

  • CSIS 1616 Rhode Island Avenue Northwest Washington, DC, 20036 United States (map)

Given President Trump’s recent remarks on adjusting the current U.S. military strategy in Afghanistan last week, it is important that we consider the non-military components of U.S. engagement as well. The Brussels Conference in October resulted in 75 countries pledging over $15 billion in development aid to continue helping Afghanistan. This event will seek to discuss the political and economic elements that an effective U.S. strategy must include. It will also concentrate on the emerging role that multilateral institutions can play in Afghanistan.
