This conference, hosted by the Wilson Center, will analyze how the winner of Iran’s presidential election faces ongoing challenges at home and abroad. Domestically, the president must address problems of economic stagnation and unemployment. How do other domestic tensions, including those between the religious establishment and the population and between Tehran and ethnic minorities, affect governance? And internationally, will Iran stick to maintaining the JCPOA and will it reconsider some of its regional policies? Panelists will explore the immediate and long-term implications of the election and how Iran’s president will navigate both existing and new challenges.
