The Horn of Africa region has been an area of keen strategic interest to the United States for decades. What will President Donald Trump’s policy towards the Horn of Africa region look like? What are the successes and failures of the Obama administration's strategy towards the region? Where are there new opportunities for U.S. policy in the region and what policies might continue?
The New America Foundation is hosting Michael Woldermariam, Assistant Professor of International Relations and Political Science at Boston University whose research focuses on African politics, particularly the dynamics of armed conflict, the behavior of rebel organizations and self-determination movements, and post-conflict institution building and Alden Young, Assistant Professor of African History and the Director of the Program in Africana Studies at Drexel University, for a discussion of the major challenges that cut across the region in the security, economic, and development domains and the particular national contexts.
