America’s war in Afghanistan, now in its 16th year, is the longest war in U.S. history. Budget cuts and years of high operational tempo have impaired the Armed Services' ability to keep up with the demands of day-to-day operations, let alone adequately prepare for future challenges. Senator John Cornyn, having traveled to Afghanistan and Iraq in the last year, proposes a strategy that strengthens the force in a way that keeps pace with evolving threats.
The Wilson Center is hosting Senator John Cornyn for a discussion on how to strengthen the military while maintaining control of the budget; how to keep up with investment in new technologies; and the role sequestration plays in the country’s ability to lead.
