Remembering lost colleagues

Today, the ICRC remembers lost colleagues.

Staff at our Geneva headquarters lighted candles and layed flowers at the Rememberance Garden starting this morning to commemorate the killing of six of our own in the Chechen village of Novye Atagi fifteen years ago.

This date has become the Day of Remembrance for all ICRC staff who have died on mission or on duty.

OCHA estimates that at least 100 humanitarian workers get killed every year.

At the ICRC, we have lost 28 colleagues since 2000, national and international staff combined.
