Millions of South Sudanese have been affected by the ongoing conflict. Over the past year, hundreds of thousands of people have been internally displaced or fled to neighboring countries.
As the ICRC's head of operations for East Africa, Eric Marclay, explained during a recent visit to Washington DC, those still in the country are dealing with severe hardship, including widespread malnutrition and food insecurity, but he adds that there is reason to be optimistic about South Sudan's future.
