Generating respect for international humanitarian law: an African perspective
On August 10, 2016, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM (GMT+2)/5:00 AM to 7:00 AM (EST), the ICRC will livestream a panel discussion on generating respect for international humanitarian law (IHL) on the African continent. The panel will bring together both African and international speakers drawn from military, government and academic backgrounds who will share perspectives on mechanisms to promote respect for the law.
The event is being held as part of the International Lawyers Association bi-annual conference in Johannesburg, South Africa and is part of the ICRC Conference Cycle on “Generating respect for the law, ” a series of ICRC-organized high-level public events and expert meetings. The ICRC Conference Cycle educates around the basic tenets of IHL and seeks to demonstrate the continued relevance of IHL in today's armed conflicts.
