The first of a series of posts from Mali, where I arrived two days ago and will be based for a few weeks.

First up an interview with Yasmine Praz-Dessimoz, ICRC head of operations for North and West Africa, with whom I have been travelling.

Ms. Praz-Dessimoz summarizes our operational priorities in the center and north of the country, where hostilities continue.

The fate of persons displaced by the fighting in Konna and Diabaly has been a concern in recent days but improved access has allowed our teams to distribute food and non-food items to close to 10,000 people. Many of them were staying with host families, which were also assisted.

Improved access also means that our protection action is developping. Ms. Praz-Dessimoz explains how our delegates are following protection issues, notably allegations of exactions against civilians.
