Less than a week after a first round of parliamentary elections in Egypt, ICRC head of delegation in Cairo Klaus Spreyerman describes a political and social environment that is far from settled.

Our team in Cairo works closely with the Egyptian Red Crescent to support that organization's response in times of crises.

When protesters once again confronted the government at the end of November, over 40 persons were killed and over 2,000 were injured, underscoring the need for humanitarian actors to remain on stand-by.

As demonstrations raged, Egyptian Red Crescent first aid responders were once again working around the clock on Tahrir Square.
