From the field - ICRC President speaks from Bamako, Mali

ICRC President Peter Maurer ends a three-day visit to Mali and Niger today.

On September 13th, amidst a deepening regional crisis, the ICRC asked donors for an additional 21 million dollars to covers the most urgent humanitarian needs in northern Mali.

This week, Mr. Maurer met ICRC staff, senior government and national Red Cross Societies officials in Niger and Mali to better understand the Malian conflict, its local and regional humanitarian consequences and the scope of our operations on the ground.

As he prepares to leave Bamako, the ICRC President speaks about the conflict in Mali, what he saw and what he brings back for ICRC donors and his diplomatic contacts.
