Citizens Trapped in Mosul are the ICRC's Main Concern

Today in Quito, Ecuador, leaders are wrapping up the last day of Habitat III, the United Nations’ Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development. Throughout the three day conference, the ICRC has been working to ensure that the New Urban Agenda (NUA) properly acknowledges the links between armed conflict, urban violence and urban development, and that commitments are made to ensure more resilient essential services and support for communities living amidst such violence.

Thousands of miles away, tanks roll on Mosul as militaries operations attempt to liberate the city. The ICRC main concerns are for the civilians trapped in the city. In this video, Katharina Ritz, ICRC head of delegation in Iraq, calls on all parties to respect, protect and help people to access safe areas.
